Folk tale · Kröv
The Kröv "Bare Bottom"
A wine thief caught red-handed and a hearty punishment – the story behind a cheeky wine label.
A winemaker in Kröv noticed that wine kept disappearing from his cellar. One day he caught the culprits: a few boys had been secretly helping themselves from his barrels.
The winemaker grabbed one of them, pulled down his trousers and spanked his bare bottom – as a warning to all the others.
The cheeky scene gave its name to one of the best-known wines of the Moselle: the "Kröver Nacktarsch" (Kröv Bare Bottom). The label still shows it today.
