Riesling and slate

Why Moselle wines taste so light and mineral.

The Moselle is above all Riesling country. The vines grow on steep south-facing slopes above the river, on slate soils that store the warmth of the day.

The result is wines that are often low in alcohol, with lively acidity and delicate fruit – from dry to lusciously sweet. At a tasting, ask about the Prädikat levels Kabinett, Spätlese and Auslese: they describe how ripe the grapes were at harvest.
